How the difference is measured
Each pair's two signature hex values are converted to CIE L*a*b* and compared with CIEDE2000, the modern perceptual color-difference formula recommended by the CIE. The result is a ΔE (delta-E) distance: a ΔE near 1.0 is the smallest difference the human eye can usually detect, while a ΔE above 10 is clearly different even without a side-by-side comparison.
