Frequently asked questions
What is Toon Tone?
Toon Tone is a free daily browser game where you rebuild a famous cartoon character's exact color from memory using hue, saturation, and brightness sliders. Each round names a character — Pikachu, Mario, the Simpsons, Sonic — and asks you to match the signature shade. No download or account is required.
How is my color scored?
Your guess is compared to the target with CIEDE2000, the modern perceptual color-difference metric. The result is a ΔE (delta-E) distance — lower is better — which converts to up to 100 points per round, so a near-perfect match scores near 100.
What does ΔE mean?
ΔE measures how far apart two colors look to the human eye. A ΔE near 1.0 is the smallest difference most people can notice; ΔE below 5 reads as 'close, but I can tell'; ΔE above 10 is clearly off.
Can I play characters from a specific cartoon or anime?
Yes. Above the game, choose any franchise — Pokémon, The Simpsons, Demon Slayer, Super Mario, Marvel, Studio Ghibli — to play only its characters. The 'Random mix' option draws from every franchise on the site.
Where do the hex codes come from?
Each character page lists widely-cited study hex, RGB, and HSB values used in color practice — for example #FFCB05 for Pikachu and #FED90F for the Simpsons. These are approximate study values for educational use, not official brand specifications.
Is Toon Tone free?
Yes. Toon Tone runs in your browser with no sign-up, no download, and no payment. New puzzles are available every day and you can reshuffle as many times as you like.
Is Toon Tone affiliated with the cartoons it features?
No. Toon Tone is an independent fan project for color study. All characters are the property of their respective owners.
